Installing A Widget Directory On Your Website

Widget directories are inserted into one of your own website's page templates with just a couple of small pieces of PHP code. BungeeBones creates the code for you using a simple form that you fill out to customize the widget to your own website (see the Demo - How To Create The Code).

The widget directory is absolutely free!

The form for creating your own widget directory is available in your BungeeBones user control panel which you get to by simply registering and logging in to the BungeeBones website. There is a slight catch however. You must submit at least one link into the directory before the link will appear in your user control panel.

After you have added your first link, return to the control panel and find the link that says "Get A Directory "Widget"

The form will generate two sections of code. The code in the first block will need to be inserted in the page's head section. The second section will need to be inserted in to your page's body section. It is a simple copy and paste installation. Immediately after saving the page it should load all of the widget directory's categories and links.

How to Make A Webpage Template From Your Current Website

Here is a step-by-step tutorial to help you to create a blank template that matches your existing website. You will need to be able to create folders and save files to your website. If you have that access then you need a copy of the source code of one of your webpages so that we can enter the directory widget code and display the directory in the body of that page.

First, create a folder in your website's "root" or main level so that it will have an address like "www.yoursite.com/this new folder" and name it something like "link_exchange". Then find and copy the source code of a suitable page on your current website whose structure fits with use as the directory widget page. Next, while viewing the new page in your browser look for some easy to find text at both the beginning of the main body and also at the end of it. Then use the browser's View --> Source feature to see the source code. Copy all the code from that page and paste it to a new page. Save that page into the "link_exchange" folder you created earlier and name the save file "something".php. If you name it anything other than index.php be sure to place an empty index.htm page into the folder too.

Open the php page you just saved and locate the beginning and ending text that you located earlier that marks the beginning and end of the main body. It is often easier to just comment out the main body to test it first rather than deleting it so place "Hello <!-- " in the beginning and --> at the end. Check your page in the browser again to see how it looks. If everything went right you would only see "Hello" in the main body now. if not make some adjustment to where you put the comment tags and try again.

When you have it looking right you now have your template. Use the form to create the directory widget and paste the resulting two blocks of code into this template according to the directions.
