Personal Link Exchange Manager

Link Display Page Tutorial

The Personal Link Manager enables webmasters to manage tasks and create the code to display links of other websites. Users can create multiple display formats or "profiles" that can be saved and reused over and over again of formatted html code in display blocks or pages of links. These blocks can then be inserted in any areas of their website that they wish. Below are some ideas on how to create and utilize that code in your website.

Category Creation

A simple process. There is a simple one item form in which you enter the category's name. That is all. The categories are saved to use later in the manager for organizing your links. There are no forms to help users modify or delete them, however (perhaps in a later version). Get more info from the Modify/Delete link in the category section of the manager's control panel. It will give some brief instruction on how to do those with a file manager.

Creating Themes

Themes that format the display of your links are completely and easily customizable. Name your format and it will be saved for future use.

  • Page background color - simply add the color code of any Internet color and your page will be produced with that background color. If you are not familiar with the color codes you want consider using the free Color Cop selector tool.
  • Font Formatting - Every font in the display has full formatting options available. The simple form for each display line has its own formatting option so that, for example, the title can be formatted separately for the description.
  • Column And Display Formatting - each theme includes the option of selecting the number of columns and the numbers of rows to display. This enables the creation of a theme for displaying in the side panels of a web site, for example, and another theme for the top of a page, and even another for the bottom.
  • Themes can be re-used to display links from innumerable and unlimited categories. For example, "book" links can be displayed using a side theme, "printer ink" links can be displayed using a bottom theme, and "favorite" links can be displayed using a top theme.

Links

Personal Link Manager can create link displays in various shapes, sizes, fonts, and colors. You decide these when you create the theme format and save it as a profile.

  • Blocks   The number of columns and rows you choose to display in a block determines the size and shape of the block. Single column blocks of various numbers of rows fit well into the right or left side tables typical on web pages. Multi-column blocks, one row deep work well at the top or bottom of a web page. Combinations of multi-column and multi-row blocks can make blocks of any size.
  • Pages -   Select a suitable number of rows to display for the correct "look" and then choose "unlimited" rows in the configuration form to display all listed links to create a full size "link" page.
  • Check For Reciprocal Links - Check for your links on other websites in just a few clicks. First, select the link you want to look for out of a list of all your links you have listed. Then select the categories you wish to check for your link. The Personal Link Manager will go through every website in every category you have selected. It will go to those pages on those sites that are supposed to contain your link and will then look through the source code of those pages for your link. For each page it will report whether the link was found or not.

Reciprocal Links

  • Use the Personal Link Manager to create a list of links you submitted to other sites and the Manager will verify for you that those links are actually on the other sites. You can have your reciprocal links spread out over your entire website if you wish because of this feature . You can have some remote sites link to your homepage, other sites linking to a "FAQ" page, and others to a "products" page for instance.
  • Check For Reciprocal Links - A check for your links on other websites is just a few clicks away. First select the link you want to look for. Then select the category(s) you wish to check for your link. The Personal Link Manager will go through each category you selected. It will pull the websites you have listed in those categories and will go to those pages on those sites that are supposed to contain your link. It will then look through the source code of those pages for your link.
  • For each page in the selected categories it will report whether the link you chose to look for was found or not. If you do use various pages on your site to list links then simply return and select the new page from your list and your categories again.

How To Make Link Displays

  • Select which of your previously created themes/formats/profiles you wish to use - the format you created lets you easily choose the font type, size, and color for each links display. It also lets you choose various items to display. For example, though it is required to display the link title you can choose whether or not to display the link's description and the link's actual URL. Each item can have its own font style, size and color. Also, any font selection also includes bold, italicize and underline options.
  • Create a storage file - Storage files are where the completed html code that the Personal Link Manager produces that displays the links is saved to. With simple php coding those pages can be included anywhere on your webpages.
  • Or use a previously created storage file - previously created displays can be easily modified and the results can overwrite the old version. In most cases your web pages will be instantly updated (depending on your coding method).
  • Save the file - the Personal Link Manager takes all the configurations you have done (the theme and fonts, the list of categories you chose, the links in those categories) and produces complete html code displaying it as you chose. The process to save the html into the selected storage file is just a matter of a few clicks.
  • Select which categories to include in the display - links from any number of categories can be included in each display.
