What is a "web directory"?

While the BungeeBones hosted web directory does operate as a web directory in a lot of ways it is tremendously different.

By studying the articles under "web directories" in the "Key Concepts" block (in the left menu)  you will gather some fundamental understanding (mostly from WikiPedia) of the benefits (and the limits)  of traditional web directories.

In the articles please notice.a couple of things. First notice their discussion of the Open Directory Project and it's limitations (i.e. volunteers). Second, notice there is no mention anywhere of the BungeeBones' concept of "Remotely hosted".

I will be discussing those points in later articles.
